Arsenal star Jurrien Timber has not been named in the provisional Netherlands squad for Euro 2024, but an uncapped Chelsea youngster has made the cut.

Ian Maatsen, currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund is among the 30 players called-up by Ronald Koeman.

Holland are one of the dark horses for this summer’s European Championships which kick-off in Germany in just under two months’ time.

They play Canada and Iceland in friendlies before Koeman will cut his squad down to the final 26.

While they boast many brilliant players, they will be without Timber who had been a key player for his national team until picking up a lengthy ACL injury in only his second game for Arsenal back in August.

The defender, who can play across the whole back-line, hasn’t played for the Gunners since but has recovered from the injury injury and did take part in two U21 games recently, scoring a worldie soon into his return.

For this reason, it is not entirely surprising that the 22-year-old has been left out, though given his status as such an important player there was still hope that he would make the provisional squad at least.

In better news for the Timber family, Jurrien’s twin brother Quinten, who plays as a midfielder for Feyenoord, has been called up,

Someone else who has been included – and perhaps taking Timber’s place – is left-back Maatsen who is yet to play for the senior Dutch team.

The 22-year-old has thrived since leaving Stamford Bridge in January, with his efforts helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final.

There is plenty of Premier League representation in the provisional squad, including Liverpool trio Virgil van Dijk (captain), Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.

Also included are Mark Flekken (Brentford), Bart Verbruggen (Brighton), Nathan Ake (Manchester City), Micky van de Ven (Tottenham).

The Netherlands have been drawn in Group D – considered the ‘Group of Death’ – against favourites France, Austria and Poland.
