According to the study published on Gamblino.com, Switzerland is the safest country in Europe, and Belgium ranks 25th.
The study has analysed nine metrics related to safety within destinations, including the number of homicides, assaults, and road deaths, the risk of natural disasters and the global peace index, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The Brussels Times also reported that the Gamblino.com study gave each country a score out of ten for nine different factors.
“When choosing great travel destinations, it is important that travellers are well informed on the countries they are travelling to, including how safe a place is,” a Gamblino.com spokesperson pointed out in this regard.
He also added that Europe offers extraordinary opportunities for all travellers who want to enjoy things such as seeing the landscapes, architecture, ecosystems and different cultures that exist throughout the continent.
The experts ranked Switzerland as the safest place to travel in Europe with a safety index score of 45, followed by three Nordic countries as follows:
- Iceland (47.4)
- Norway (47.9)
- Denmark (49.4)
The fifth place is occupied by Luxembourg (50), followed by Finland (51.2), Ireland (51.5), the Netherlands (52) and Austria (52.1). At the same time, Sweden ranks in the top ten, scoring 52.2.
Of the 39 countries listed, Belgium ranks significantly lower, in 25th place with a score of 58.9, mainly due to the relatively high number of serious assaults, cases of sexual violence and robberies. In addition, the last two countries on the list are Ukraine (75.1) and Russia (93.8).
Previously, a study published by Forbes last year found that Switzerland was considered the safest country in Europe to travel to during this period, taking into account several factors, including crime rates, pollution levels and healthcare.
The Forbes study also ranked Slovenia in second position, followed by Portugal, Austria, Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic.
For the year 2022, Switzerland was chosen at the top of the ranking and was evaluated with a grade of 88.3. These data also show that the Swiss enjoy the best healthcare system in Europe, the six best bathing water on the continent and among the lowest pollution levels.
At the same time, Switzerland is also known for its fantastic food and vibrant local cultures as well.
