Thursday night’s KNVB Cup clash between PSV and Twente was called off shortly before kick-off was due to take place following heavy rainfall in Eindhoven. After making the decision, referee Jeroen Manschot stated that the safety of the players could not be guaranteed and the best thing to do was to postpone the match.

The KNVB have decided that the match will be played on either the 16th, 17th or 18th of January. The Eredivisie resumes following the winter break on Friday the 12th of January, with eight matches in the next round of the cup set to be played in the following midweek. The winner of the PSV vs Twente clash will then go on to play Feyenoord at De Kuip in the cup.

Speaking to the media about the postponed match, PSV boss Peter Bosz said ‘We would have preferred to play tonight. This is annoying for those boys who were prepared for this. But I especially find it annoying for the people who were in the stadium, who came and had to go home disappointed without having seen a match.’ Bosz then went on to say that it was the right decision to call off the game as it was best for the safety of the players.
