NOC*NSF has announced that starting in 2025, motocross will be recognized as an Olympic sport in the Netherlands. This elevated status follows an application submitted by the KNMV and will be effective for four years, corresponding to an Olympic cycle.

While motocross may not be an Olympic sport, its significance in the Netherlands cannot be ignored. The recent change in status implies a higher regard for this form of motorsport and an increase in available funding. This will enable the KNMV to initiate top-tier programs for elite riders, supplementing the existing initiatives for young talent. All funding will be dedicated to advancing the sport.

The NOC*NSF evaluation is based on a comprehensive request from the KNMV, which includes a range of data, insights, and statistics related to motocross. Wim Mulder, the KNMV director, views this decision as a significant breakthrough for motorsport.

“I am convinced that motocross is first and foremost a challenging and impactful sport. It is great to do or watch and has a worldwide impact thanks to its large fan base. We have made a strong argument with the results of the Dutch motocross riders and the programs we have set up for talented young riders. This proves that the KNMV makes a consistent contribution to motocross success. I am proud that the Olympic Committee has given motocross the highest possible sport status in the Netherlands.”
