India finish runners-up in FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup | Hockey News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India concluded their campaign in the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup as runners-up after suffering a 2-7 defeat to the Netherlands in the final.
The summit clash saw Jyoti Chhatri (20th minute) and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (23rd) scoring for India, while the Netherlands dominated with Janneke van de Venne (2nd, 14th), Bente van der Veldt (4th, 8th), Lana Kalse (11th, 27th), and Sosha Benninga (13th) finding the back of the net.

The Netherlands started the match strongly, with Janneke van de Venne’s long-range shot deflecting off Indian goalkeeper Rajani Etimarpu into the goal, giving them an early lead. Bente van der Veldt doubled the lead with a powerful shot into the net. The Netherlands continued their dominance, capitalizing on openings and extending their lead to 6-0 by halftime.
In the second half, India managed to open their account as Jyoti Chhatri and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal scored, but the Netherlands maintained control with a counter-attack goal from Lana Kalse. Despite India’s efforts to test the Netherlands’ goalkeeper, they couldn’t close the gap. The Netherlands secured a 7-2 victory in the final.

For their outstanding performance in the tournament, Hockey India announced a cash award of Rs 3 lakh for each player and Rs 1.5 lakh for each support staff member.
The Dutch team showcased their prowess and secured the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup title, while India demonstrated commendable skill and determination throughout the competition.
