Eindhoven –

The Dutch specialist in machines for the production of computer chips will be expanding significantly in the Netherlands. According to media reports, more than 20,000 jobs would be created in Eindhoven.

ASML’s choice to expand in Eindhoven is good news for the Netherlands. CEO Peter Wennink recently expressed fierce criticism of the Dutch investment climate. For example, he warned about the consequences of a stricter migration policy. After all, the company is largely dependent on personnel from abroad. Wennink suggested that ASML could realize its expansion plans elsewhere, for example in France.

The resigning Dutch cabinet then launched Operation Beethoven, with which they wanted to keep the tech giant in the Netherlands. With success, as it now appears. Financial CEO Roger Dassen of ASML will sign a declaration of intent with the municipality of Eindhoven on Monday. Both parties want to investigate whether the Brainport Industries Campus is suitable for the expansion. The expansion would create 20,000 direct and 45,000 indirect jobs in the region.

To enable growth in the Netherlands, the Dutch government is allocating 1.7 billion euros for the construction of infrastructure, housing and education, among other things. On top of that amount, 700 million euros will also be added from the Eindhoven region and companies in the region. Today, ASML has approximately 23,000 employees in the Netherlands and approximately 42,000 worldwide. (gc)
