Alabama has not even reached Kalen DeBoer’s first training camp with the Crimson Tide, and he is already dealing with some staff turnover in Tuscaloosa.

DeBoer’s offensive coordinator, Ryan Grubb, followed the head coach from Washington to Alabama but is now in the NFL. He was hired by the Seattle Seahawks and new head coach Mike Macdonald, making his way back to Washington where he spent the past 2 seasons with the Huskies.

Now, the Crimson Tide are reportedly losing offensive line coach Scott Huff. Huff coached the Joe Moore Award-winning unit at Washington in 2023 and had followed DeBoer and Grubb to Tuscaloosa.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Huff is expected to join Grubb as the new offensive line coach for the Seahawks. That leaves Alabama with a key piece of the coaching staff to fill late in the hiring cycle:

Replacing Nick Saban was never going to be easy, but this is not the ideal start to DeBoer’s tenure with the Crimson Tide. Alabama AD Greg Byrne said the program had a plan in place should DeBoer lose Grubb to another job, and we’ll see if they have a quick plan in place for replacing Huff as well.

Even with the roster turnover and changes at Alabama following Saban’s retirement, the Crimson Tide maintain the 4th-best national championship odds ahead of the 2024 season.
